Hi Everyone!
I’m Donald, or Ted for those close friends that have known me a long time. I live for experiences, whether that’s travelling to new places or trying new activities.
My Blog
The reason for starting this blog was the imminent arrival of my 50th year. Thinking this was as good an excuse as any to do some fun things, have some new experiences and tick off a few bucket list items, the first thing I did was to sign up to ride the full route of the Tour de France for charity (more on that in the blog) then started to think what other mad or fun things I wanted to get up to.
Thus the idea of writing about my experiences was born.
As well as my adventures, I’ll also include various thoughts and musings that I might think interesting. Who knows where this might go. Hopefully though, whatever reason you’ve stumbled upon my page, you’ll find something interesting to read. I must say though, I’m not expert at this blogging malarkey, so don’t expect too much.
Where I live
I was born in Scotland and now live in our lovely capital, Edinburgh. Although the weather is not always great, Edinburgh’s beauty seems to fit all weather, whether glorious sunshine, rain, fog or snow.
If planning to come, try to time your visit with one of the many festivals Edinburgh holds throughout the year. These are when Edinburgh really comes alive.
Hobbies
I’ve always been a bit of a try everything person, so have quite wide and varied interests. My main passion however would be skiing. If I don’t get at least one skiing trip in each year I’m going to be one unhappy person. A close second would have to be cycling. I am also keen on trekking, with an interest on progressing on to proper mountaineering, or at least some of the bigger trekking peaks.
Work
I wouldn’t say that I am a career oriented person, I work to afford the things I want to do. That is not to say I don’t take work seriously though; success in work allows me to do more and better things. I currently work for the Open University in the School of Engineering & Innovation. I am a Chartered Engineer, specialising in Mechanical Engineering design.
